It was important that the final design had a successful composition, to form one cohesive design, essentially bringing all elements of this poster into a graphical harmony such as the form, type, images and colour. The aim of this was not only to produce something visually satisfying but a design that is also highly functional and effective.
The horse on the film reel is the main focal point, it helps express the context of the poster as a visual aid, by conveying location and culture as well as the purpose of the poster. It perfectly creates a visual story for the type. As a design it works in tandem with the type, both linking together semantically and syntactically.
The poster also conveys strong use of leading lines through use of the film reel. You start with the horse and then the film works to navigate the viewer’s eyes throughout the rest of the design. This subtle technique provides a subconcious direction for the audience to follow.
Scale and Hierachy were used effectively to signify importance. Attention drawn to the Horse and reel. Then subtle scaling of the logo. The same functions were applied to the type. Sponsors were made smaller, for the 31 years and name of event were made larger to signify the importance, thus maintaining typographical hierachy.
The banner created is an extension of the poster. Illustrating that the poster was designed to accept many formats. Previous posters of LIFF were studied to understand where to go for the project, and all poster designs involved also represented the branding for the entire event. So this quality was needed within my design, and the banner conveys this.
