STUDY TASK 02 - COLOUR RELATIVITY

Brown is my least favourite colour, In colour psychology, brown is honest, genuine and sincere. It relates to the hardworking, the industrious and reliable, with both feet planted firmly on the ground. It does have its positive implications, expressing themes such as down-to-earth, wholesome, practical, approachable, friendly, stable, structured, supportive, comforting, reliable, protective, strength, quietly confident, sensual, sensitive, warm, reassured, honest, sincere, quality...

However for me personally it has the negative implications visually. Negative keywords include: dull, boring, frugal, materialistic, lack of humour, lack of sophistication, predictable, cheap and stingy. I find it can be difficult to work with when mixed with other colours.

This is a colour swatch combination I believe where brown works well. Coincides with the much lighter pastural colours such as green, cream, mustard.

I used 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss children's book to show an example of where the colour could work well. Maybe not this strong level of cyan presented, but the colour combination. I do not like this example still, due to this type of brown. It works better than most colour combinations for brown however it is still not visually appealing to me. You do not see many corporate big companies, or really any company using brown as their chosen colour scheme, unless it is something that promotes natural, organic products.
